About the artwork:
The Almond Garden Ball
In 1827 John McLeod planted a large almond garden at his property, Meadowbank and parts of the garden are still there today. McLeod was a hospitable man which was illustrated when he held a extravagant ball at Meadowbank in 1840. Hundreds of red Chinese lanterns lit the road from Campbell Town to Meadowbank through the almond garden. The ball became later known as the Almond Garden Ball.

Presenting Tasmanian history in a way that is distinctive in its historical/contemporary narrative, this collection explores several historical events and individuals connected to Campbell Town and the surrounding Midlands area. These include the Black Line, the transit of Venus, a telephone call, a navigator and John McLeod’s extravagant ball.
