About the artwork:
Topiary Arch Tree
One hundred and twenty topiary trees were created from 1964 onwards by the late Jack Cashion during his lunch hours working for the local council. Some of the these trees still line the sides of the highway near Oatlands and continue to delight travellers with their playfulness.
The evergreen whimsy of the topiary arch tree contrasts with the yellow palette of the country upon which it sits.
About The Midlands collection:
Set against the backdrop of the contested pastoral landscape, The Midlands collection explores history, whimsey, privilege and land degradation.
